2016 - It's a brand new year and I was looking for some nice place to visit or some nice food to start off 2016. Had been searching for quite some time but nothing nice that caught my eye and it's time for me to go pick up my dad from the airport. So I was actually feeling a bit bored and disappointed until half way to the airport and I saw the sign "
DENGKIL". The word flash through my mind and I started searching online for some nice restaurant in Dengkil for dinner. Among all the restaurants that were being introduced on other sites, this restaurant actually arouse my interest and so I decided to give it a try after picking dad up from the airport.
A gentle reminder to all of you who are quite depended on "Waze" like me. I would suggest you to turn on Waze only when you are near Dengkil town instead of using it from KLIA2
because it tends to bring you to all those small roads passing through all the bushes and trees and a few kampung houses. My dad and my friend who are driving started having doubts once we turned into the trunk roads that seems to lead you to nowhere. Bare in mind that if you are passing by at night it will be a bit scary as it does not have street lights.
After a short adventurous ride through all the trunk roads, we finally arrived at the destination. It is a double-storey shoplot with a big yellow signboard near a traffic light. We ordered the famous Dongpo Pork, Paku vegetable, River Catfish and Baked Salted Crab.
Dongpo Pork (东坡肉) - RM16
Mantou (馒头)- RM6
The Dongpo Pork is superb. It is juicy and tender. The sauce is just mixed to perfection as it is not as sweet as some of the other Dongpo Pork that I had tried before. Just eating the pork alone, you will be able to taste some of the spices such as clove (丁香)and star anise (八角). The pork that they used is very much to my preference as it does not have as much fats compared to some other Dongpo Pork outside which makes it balanced between the fats and the meat. You can choose either to go with the Mantou or not.
Paku Vegetable (铁板巴菇菜)- RM10
The Paku Vegetable is supposedly fried with chili but we requested for non spicy food so the lady asked the chef not to put any in it. However, when the Paku Vegetable is served, there is a strong salted fish smell which makes it smells good. The saltiness from the salted fish makes it a perfect combination to be eaten together with rice. The lady also told us that the Paku is planted in Dengkil itself and it's soft unlike others that are planted in Cameron which is a bit hard.
River Catfish in Soup with Lala (上汤白须公啦啦)
River Catfish (白须公) - RM56
Lala (啦啦) - RM15
The lady that took our order is so professional. She did tell us the price of the fish when we ordered and ask if we are ok with it. The river catfish is huge and therefore we only took half of it as there is only 4 of us. The price is pretty reasonable too. It's RM9 per 100gm. I highly recommend that you try the soup 1st before soaking all the ginger in it as the ginger will change the clear taste of the soup to spiciness. The catfish and lala is very fresh too. It does not have the taste of the soil although it is river fish.
Baked Salted Crab (盐焗蟹) - RM88
We choose not to order any crab with sauce so that we will be able to taste the freshness of the crab. Although it has been barbecued with salt, you will still be able to taste the sweetness of the crab meat. The crab is small but the body part has a lot of meat too.
As we were eating, all the other tables were full with customers too. So do go early or call to book first.
