The Famous Frozen Yogurt in Town: Llao Llao

It has been awhile since the famous dessert - llao llao has come to KL. There are 2 stalls available in KL - Pavillion and Mid Valley. I have always wanted to try it out but always missed it and it always have a long queue. After such a long delay finally I managed to give it a try.

llao llao in Mid Valley

The llao llao stall in Mid Valley is strategically located on the 3rd floor right in front of the World of Feng Shui shop. Fortunately on a weekday afternoon there is not much of a queue. :)

Sizes and Choices Available

Their frozen yogurt is made from skimmed milk which is healthy and high in nutrition. Together with the choice of toppings ranging from freshly chopped fruits to cereals to crunchy toppings and delicious sauces, it makes a perfect combination.

Choice of Sauces - rafallao and lotus caramelized sauce are my favourite

Cereal, Crunchy Toppings and Fresh Fruits Selections

Last step - Pouring your preferred sauce onto your yogurt

Sanum with chocorock sauce

Their signature Sanum is definitely my favourite. It comes with frozen yogurt as the base, follow with your 1st choice of crunch to 3 layers of different freshly chopped fruits to your 2nd choice of crunch and top with your preferred choice of sauce. Yummy....

Sanum in raffallao sauce

The raffallao sauce is a combination of white chocolate, coconut, biscuits and brittle. There is some crunchiness in the sauce itself and it is just perfect to go with the sour frozen yogurt.

I am addicted to their Sanum after I tried it out. So nowadays I always buy llao llao whenever I am in Pavillion and Mid Valley.

Tasty Porridge in Restaurant O.K Claypot Seafood Congee

My friend brought me to this restaurant once after we finished work late at night one day. I like their claypot congee a lot and decided to bring my dad to try it out last Sunday. Not only did they serve tasty and congee but their dishes are worth a try too. I would say most of their dishes taste good.

Restaurant O.K. Claypot Seafood Congee is located in Imbi with a bright red signboard. The restaurant next to it is selling congee too with the name Onn Kee. So make sure you do not go to the wrong one. However, parking in that area might be a bit of a problem as there are no parking spaces and you just have to park at the road side. It was a rainy day last Sunday and the weather is perfect to have a hot pot of congee.

 Preserved Egg Congee (皮蛋粥)

Frog Congee (田鸡粥)

There are a lot of choices to choose from the menu for congees. We ordered 2 congees - preserved egg congee and frog congee. We ordered for 1 pax for both and the portion is about 4 bowls as shown in the pictures above. The texture of the congee is just smooth and nicely blend together. It has some sweetness in it too especially for the frog congee. Dad likes it so much until he asked the daughter of the owner how to make such congee. :)

Butter Chicken (奶油鸡)

The butter chicken is actually chicken fried with butter and top with egg yolk fried in butter until it becomes egg floss. The egg floss has some crispness in it and it goes perfectly well with the chicken. It goes well with the porridge too.

Salted Egg Eggplant (咸蛋茄子)

The eggplant which is fried with salted egg is delicious too. You will still be able to see some salted egg yolks on top of the eggplant. For those who love fried food, you will definitely like this. Their salted egg pumpkin is also one of their specialty too. I tried that last time so I decided to try the eggplant instead.

Custard Fish (奶皇鱼)

Both the other dishes that we ordered are dry so we decided to order one custard fish which comes with sauce. The custard sauce is so creamy and I think it goes well with buns. It has some spiciness in it because of the dried chilies. The fish is deep fried first and then added into the custard sauce to be cooked together so that it will have the creamy taste of the custard too.

Dad loves all their dishes and we will definitely go back to try out more of their other dishes. Their business hour is past midnight which I think is until around 3am or 4am. So this is definitely a place where you can keep in mind if you are hungry and looking for some supper at night.

Chewy Pumpkin Abacus and Fried Asam Laksa in Restaurant Hakka Marble 美浩天美食馆

Healthy way to start the first Sunday in 2016 - Badminton. But after some 2 hours of badminton playing where we are trying to burn off some fats, we indulge ourselves in some good food. So... there goes our effort of fat burning. Lol.... but... it's always feel good to be able to sweat it out. Wondering where we went for our late lunch? It's about 3.30pm and we are able to go to this restaurant that served awesome Hakka Abacus - Restaurant Hakka Marble which is just located next to Sushi Mentai in Taman Bukit Anggerik, Cheras.

Restaurant Hakka Marble 美浩天美食馆

People who come here would definitely order their Hakka Abacus  (算盘子). They sell two types of Hakka Abacus - the traditional Yam Abacus and the healthy Pumpkin Abacus. Both of it taste good but today we ordered the latter. Growing up as a Hakka girl, I have always loved Hakka Abacus but it's hard to make one that taste good yet maintaining their softness and chewiness. Since my grandmother passed away there's no one at home that can make such good ones. So I will always order one whenever I go to some Hakka restaurant. This restaurant is definitely one that is on top of the list.

Pumpkin Hakka Abacus (金瓜算盘子)

Other than the abacus, this restaurant also serve Fried Asam Laksa. I have only tried the one in Subang Jaya and today is the first time I tried it in Hakka Marble. Their Fried Asam Laksa is served with a fresh medium prawn on top and the pineapple that they used is delicious too. You will be able to see chunks of pineapple, cucumber, some onion slices and a few mint leaves in it which are the main ingredients for Asam Laksa. I would say that I think the Fried Asam Laksa in Hakka Marble taste better than the one in Subang Jaya. It's definitely worth a try.

Fried Asam Laksa

Other than that, we also ordered the Fried Rice Cake. It has loads of pork lard in it but if you ask me, I would say that I had tried nicer Fried Rice Cake elsewhere. Their fried rice cake has lots of ingredients such as vegetables, parsley and so on which I think they put way too much in it that they stole away the taste of the original taste of the rice cake. Hence, not all people likes parsley due to the smell that it has. My friends are one of them so they have to choose out all the parsley in it.

Fried Rice Cake (炒白粿)

Their specialty drinks seems to be a perfect combination that goes well with the food especially their fresh lemonade juice which is just perfect to quench our thirst after our badminton session. The lemon that they put in the drink is actually quite big and not just slices of it. The other drink that is worth a try is their Sarsi Cincau. The sarsi is not very sweet and it's actually taste quite good together with the cincau.

Fresh Lemonade Juice & Sarsi Cincau

The restaurant is quite small as the back of it is used as an open kitchen. It's normally packed during dinner time. People come as early as 5.00pm. So you will have to wait for quite awhile. Despite the crowd, I will definitely come back for their Hakka Abacus. :) Try it out yourself.

Food Hunt: Fresh and Smooth Patin in Restaurant Siu Siu 小小饭店

As we are walking into the year of 2016, our food hunt continues. :) Today, after we went for some furniture hunting in Brezza Taman Seputeh, we decided to go to the Restaurant Siu Siu which is just a short drive away.

Restaurant Siu Siu Taman Seputeh 小小饭店

(Located opposite Glasshouse Seputeh)

However, as our furniture hunt took longer than we expected, we ended up having our late dinner there. It was around 9pm when we reached the restaurant and the famous Char Siew has been sold out. We did not order their famous Claypot Crab Rice too because the crab is sold out as well. :( Thought of bringing my dad there to try out this 2 dishes but both also sold out. So we ordered some simple dishes and told my dad that we will go back some other time and next time we should go there earlier.

Steamed Patin Fish (巴丁鱼) - RM56

Without the famous Char Siew and Claypot Crab Rice, this fresh river Patin fish is the highlight of our dinner. Dad loves this so much. He said that the texture of the meat is so smooth and taste better than the river Catfish that we had yesterday. As compared to Catfish, Patin does indeed has a smoother texture. The secret that makes a steam fish taste good is always depending on the fish sauce itself and the fish sauce for this Patin fish is absolutely delicious.

Roasted Pork (烧肉) - RM24

Since they ran out of Char Siew, we asked the lady to recommend us another meat dish and she recommended us the Roasted Pork. To be honest, this roasted pork is not much to my liking and I would not recommend it or order it again. Although the skin is crispy, there is some porky taste or smell in it. Something that makes it seems not so fresh. Definitely prefer their Char Siew more.

Minced Pork Tauhu (山城豆腐) - RM15

Stir Fried Leaf Lettuce (清炒油麦) - RM15

The Tauhu is worth a try. The texture of if is smooth and I guess it's home made. It is first being fried in oil and topped with some minced pork, green beans and preserved vegetables. Of course we won't missed out some greens in our meals to make it balance so we just ordered a stir fried leaf lettuce.

Fresh River fish

If you are a fish lover who loves to eat fish, this restaurant is definitely worth a try. And their Char Siew is a must try too.... will definitely bring my dad back to try it out one day. To prevent disappointment from not being able to try their Char Siew and Claypot Crab Rice, do go early or you can try to call and see if they let you reserve it.

Juicy Dongpo Pork and Fresh Water Fish in Dengkil Seafood Restaurant 龍溪海鮮酒家

2016 - It's a brand new year and I was looking for some nice place to visit or some nice food to start off 2016. Had been searching for quite some time but nothing nice that caught my eye and it's time for me to go pick up my dad from the airport. So I was actually feeling a bit bored and disappointed until half way to the airport and I saw the sign "DENGKIL". The word flash through my mind and I started searching online for some nice restaurant in Dengkil for dinner. Among all the restaurants that were being introduced on other sites, this restaurant actually arouse my interest and so I decided to give it a try after picking dad up from the airport.

A gentle reminder to all of you who are quite depended on "Waze" like me. I would suggest you to turn on Waze only when you are near Dengkil town instead of using it from KLIA2 because it tends to bring you to all those small roads passing through all the bushes and trees and a few kampung houses. My dad and my friend who are driving started having doubts once we turned into the trunk roads that seems to lead you to nowhere. Bare in mind that if you are passing by at night it will be a bit scary as it does not have street lights.

After a short adventurous ride through all the trunk roads, we finally arrived at the destination. It is a double-storey shoplot with a big yellow signboard near a traffic light. We ordered the famous Dongpo Pork, Paku vegetable, River Catfish and Baked Salted Crab.

Dongpo Pork (东坡肉) - RM16

Mantou (馒头)- RM6

The Dongpo Pork is superb. It is juicy and tender. The sauce is just mixed to perfection as it is not as sweet as some of the other Dongpo Pork that I had tried before. Just eating the pork alone, you will be able to taste some of the spices such as clove (丁香)and star anise (八角). The pork that they used is very much to my preference as it does not have as much fats compared to some other Dongpo Pork outside which makes it balanced between the fats and the meat. You can choose either to go with the Mantou or not.

Paku Vegetable (铁板巴菇菜)- RM10

The Paku Vegetable is supposedly fried with chili but we requested for non spicy food so the lady asked the chef not to put any in it. However, when the Paku Vegetable is served, there is a strong salted fish smell which makes it smells good. The saltiness from the salted fish makes it a perfect combination to be eaten together with rice. The lady also told us that the Paku is planted in Dengkil itself and it's soft unlike others that are planted in Cameron which is a bit hard.

River Catfish in Soup with Lala (上汤白须公啦啦)

River Catfish (白须公) - RM56

Lala (啦啦) - RM15

The lady that took our order is so professional. She did tell us the price of the fish when we ordered and ask if we are ok with it. The river catfish is huge and therefore we only took half of it as there is only 4 of us. The price is pretty reasonable too. It's RM9 per 100gm. I highly recommend that you try the soup 1st before soaking all the ginger in it as the ginger will change the clear taste of the soup to spiciness. The catfish and lala is very fresh too. It does not have the taste of the soil although it is river fish.

Baked Salted Crab (盐焗蟹) - RM88

We choose not to order any crab with sauce so that we will be able to taste the freshness of the crab. Although it has been barbecued with salt, you will still be able to taste the sweetness of the crab meat. The crab is small but the body part has a lot of meat too.

As we were eating, all the other tables were full with customers too. So do go early or call to book first.
